Zuraida: 'Rawang Move' to oust Azmin an Umno tall tale

PKR Wanita chief Zuraida Kamaruddin has rubbished a purported scheme called 'Langkah Rawang' to oust Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali, as an Umno ploy.

Zuraida noted the rumour had only surfaced after PKR managed to net former Umno supreme council member Saifuddin Abdullah.

"All the curiosity about the removal of Azmin was brought about by the sudden joining of a rather reputable Umno member (into PKR) who also happens to be a former MP.

"This has made Umno members rather piqued and caused them to create gossip to make themselves feel better," she said in a statement today.

'Langkah Rawang' was named with reference to 'Langkah Kajang' last year where Lee Chin Cheh resigned as Kajang state assemblyperson to allow for the then federal opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim to contest in the seat.

The intention was for Anwar to replaced then Selangor menteri besar Khalid Ibrahim but the plan did not succeed as Anwar was convicted of sodomy, a charge he claims to be politically motivated.

Azmin, who is Bukit Antarabangsa state assemblyperson and PKR deputy president, was eventually appointed as menteri besar.

However, the latest rumour played up on social media is that Rawang state assemblyperson Gan Pei Nei is set to resign to make way for Saifuddin ( photo ), who will then replace Azmin as menteri besar.

Gan has rubbished the claim, describing it as an attempt to distract from Najib's scandal where RM2.6 billion was deposited into his personal bank accounts.

Najib had denied taking public funds for personal gain while his supporters claim the money was a political donation from the Middle East.

Saifuddin was appointed as the Pakatan Harapan chief secretary shortly after joining PKR.
