Faster Internet with RM1.2b in Budget 2016

The 2016 Budget announced by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak on Friday is comprehensive and good for the wellbeing of the people, said Deputy Minister of Communications and Multimedia Jailani Johari.

He said the allocationn of RM1.2 billion for the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) means better information communication technology (ICT) infrastructure.

"With this allocation, the Internet broadband speed in rural areas will be raised from five megabits per second (Mbps) to 20mbps and up to 100Mbps in urban areas.

"The government has also allocated RM100 million for the e-Rezeki and e-Usahawan programmes to help the low income group," he said at a function with 300 traders at Pasar Besar Kuala Berang today.

Jailani said programmes under Multimedia Development Corporation (MDEC) will help to raise the income of housewives, students and youths via online businesses.

"We will introduce the 'Siber Guru' (cyber teachers) in some Internet centres to encourage the participation of the low income group to go into online business.

"The allocation of RM250 million to implement the national digitisation project will realise our desire to upgrade from analog to digital broadcasting by 2018," he added.
