Public Accounts Committee (PAC) member Tony Pua said he has nothing to fear if the Dewan Rakyat implements the oath of secrecy on members of the committee.

"I have done nothing wrong, so I am not afraid," said Pua (DAP-Petaling Jaya Utara) when met at the Parliament lobby today.

Last Thursday, Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi ( photo ) proposed that the PAC members take the oath of secrecy pledge on deliberations of the committee.

However, Pua said the august House needed to initiate an amendment to the parliamentary Standing Orders to include the oath of secrecy before Zahid's proposal could realised.

If the Standing Orders are amended accordingly, then he would not object to taking the oath of secrecy, he said.

As to whether Zahid's proposal was meant to silence him, Pua said he was in the dark about this.

Some evidence not for public

Meanwhile, Takiyuddin Hassan (PAS-Kota Bharu) said his party was agreeable to the PAC members having to take an oath of secrecy.

"This is to determine that all members in PAC will not expose too much or reveal everything that transpires in the proceedings, as some of the evidence is not for public consumption," Takiyuddin said.

Information which particularly relates to security of the country and people, should not be revealed, he added.

"We must have dos and don'ts (in PAC hearing), " Takiyuddin ( photo ) said.

PAC, which began its hearing on 1MDB on May 19, was caught up in a controversy when it was alleged that information on the matter was leaked to local and international media.

Pua had denied leaking the report in the wake of the disclosure.

On Sept 9, US-based Wall Street Journal had published a report which claimed that US$1.4 billion paid by 1MDB to Abu Dhabi-based International Petroleum Company (IPIC) had gone missing.

The report was based on the transcript of the PAC hearing into the 1MDB scandal.

Former PAC chief Nur Jazlan Mohamed had claimed that PAC members did not have the transcript of the PAC hearing.

Takiyuddin, who is also PAS secretary-general, said all PAC hearings should follow procedure similar to a court trial.

Documents, particularly the ones relating to 1MDB and SRC International Sdn Bhd, should be given to the members earlier, he said.

The PAS lawyer also disagreed with the move to oust Pua from PAC, as claimed by the latter.

"He has done a good job, he knows what he is doing and talking," Takiyuddin complimented.
