Police today denied there was a band of robbers actively operating in Sibu especially in the rural areas, to kidnap people for their internal organs.

Sibu district police chief ACP Mohd Kamal Kordi said the purported activity, which went viral on the social media last week, was not true.

“Not true. Now there are many things that have gone viral which scare the public,” he said when contacted in Sibu today.

According to the social media, there were robbers today who were harvesting human internal organs such as kidneys or hearts for sale overseas.

Mohd Kamal advised the public not to believe such reports which had not been verified.

He also denied there were criminals who used women and small children as bait in order to get house owners to open their doors at night.

He urged social media users to be more responsible and not spread untruths and create fear among the public.
