Tamil superstar Rajinikanth calls on Malacca governor

Famous Tamil film star Rajinikanth paid a courtesy call on Malacca Governor Mohd Khalil Yaakob at his office in Ayer Keroh, Malacca, yesterday.

Rajinikanth, who is in Malacca for the filming of the movie 'Kabali', arrived at 10.30am and spent about an hour with the governor.

Khalil said Malacca welcomed the movie being filmed against the backdrop of the state, thus giving prominence to Malacca and Malaysia internationally and indirectly boosting Malaysian tourism.

He said he had always been interested in films from South India and at the meeting, the two discussed the best movies Rajinikanth had starred in, especially 'Muthu' which was filmed in 1995.

"He (Rajinikanth) is a great guy and I have always been following his acting," Khalil told reporters after the visit.

Rajinikanth, who arrived in Malacca yesterday for his 156th film, will be in the state until Friday and among 'Kabali' filming locations are Jalan Kota, Bandar Hilir and Seri Negeri Ayer Keroh Complex in the historical city.
