Gerakan is rather baffled with DAP’s continued obsession with PAS when the two parties have cut ties for the second time this year.

“This is surprising when DAP has been sleeping in the same bed with PAS since 1999 when Barisan Alternatif was formed for the general election that year," said Baljit, a lawyer.

“They broke up, as lovers sometimes do, over quarrels regarding the Islamic state but all was forgiven. They kissed and made up, and slept together again in 2008,” Baljit told Malaysiakini .

“However, one cannot help but feel that DAP and PAS still harbour feelings for one another no matter how much they express their hate for one another,” he added.

“For never a day goes by without one or the other hitting out at each other. Are they still in love? Do they still want to share a bed?” Baljit asked tongue- in-cheek.

Baljit was responding to the latest incident in which DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng took a swipe at former PAS deputy chief Nasharuddin Mat Isa for accepting the offer from Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to head the Global Movement for Moderates in Malaysia.

Lim, who is Penang chief minister, said the appointment indicated that PAS and Umno were ' dancing closer ' to each other.

Nasharuddin, the former PAS MP for Yan and Bachok, replaces former Umno deputy minister Saifuddin Abdullah who joined PKR on Oct 16.

Baljit said he noticed elements of jealousy when DAP leaders took a jibe at Nasharuddin in questioning his ability to be moderate.

“Why bother when the truth will reveal itself? Nasharuddin has a role to play in the moderate world now and only time will tell if he can live up to the cause,” Baljit noted.

'PAS is so hot'

Baljit said he also continued to be baffled by the shenanigans of the opposition parties, with DAP and PKR being at loggerheads with each other over PKR’s insistence on maintaining ties with PAS.

He was referring to PAS' statement that Pakatan Rakyat, which died when the party severed ties with DAP in June, was very much alive in Selangor.

But DAP does not seem to accept this as the party has declared Selangor a Pakatan Harapan state government, with Parti Negara Amanah as a member.

Amanah is a splinter party of PAS and was launched on Sept 16 after 18 PAS progressive faction leaders headed by Mohamed Mat Sabu left and set up an opposition movement called Gerakan Harapan Baru.

“I suppose PAS is so hot that even PKR in Selangor cannot seem to let it go,” said Baljit.

He urged DAP to focus its attention on its new buddy Amanah 'for there is where your future lies'.

“Now, we do not want to see a triangle love affair, do we? Stop the drama, DAP, PKR and PAS, the people are tired of your sandiwara,” he added.
