A total of 118 people from 31 families involving four villages in Pantai Remis, 120 kilometres from Ipoh, have been evacuated following heavy rains and landslides yesterday.
Pantai Remis Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson Superintendent Amir Ahmad said the affected villages were Kampung Tebuk Yan, Kampung Nelayan Sungai Batu Pantai Tin, Kampung Sungai Batu and Kampung Parit Merican.
All the victims have been relocated to Kampung Sungai Batu community hall and Kampung Nelayan Sungai Batu Pantai Tin community hall, the spokesperson said today.
Three hours of downpour beginning yesterday evening caused the nearby river to overflow resulting in flash floods, landslides and uprooting of trees.
Operations to evacuate the flood victims, beginning 6pm yesterday to early this morning, involved personnel from the Royal Malaysian Police, the Fire and Rescue Department, the People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela), Civil Defence Department and the Social Welfare Department.
