Former Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairperson Mohamed Nur Jazlan has branded 1MDB president Arul Kanda and PAC member Tony Pua as “childish” for agreeing to debate on live television.

Nur Jazlan criticised the duo for not thinking the matter thoroughly through, according to The Star Online .

“Whatever that has been told to and investigated by the PAC should stay within the committee before the matter is brought to Parliament.

“PAC members were selected by Parliament and if this debate goes through, then what’s the point of having an investigation in the first place,” Nur Jazlan was quoted as saying.

Nur Jazlan had previously led the PAC to investigate alleged misappropriation in 1MDB until he was co-opted into the government as deputy home minister in July.

He was replaced by Rompin MP Hasan Arifin as PAC chief on Oct 19.

On Wednesday night, Pua had offered to host Arul in a live talk show where the former would ask tough questions.

This was after Pua rubbished Arul’s live interview on Bernama TV which he described as a public relations exercise.

Arul initially said he would only engage Pua if the latter resigned as a PAC member but this morning expressed willingness to take on Pua unconditionally.

Following this, Pua said he looked forward to asking Arul tough questions that Malaysians have been “dying to ask”.

Prior to the consensus, Communications and Multimedia Minister Salleh Said Keruak had also offered RTM to broadcast the showdown live.

It remains to be seen if the government will now follow through with the offer.
