Party secretariat gathering evidence against Umno seven
The Umno secretariat will gather sufficient evidence before making any decision on the seven leaders who allegedly criticised the party openly.
Umno vice-president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said after the evidence was completed, it would be presented to the party's top management, either the disciplinary committee, presidential council or directly to the supreme council.
“I leave it to the secretary-general (Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor) to gather all the details on the individuals he mentioned,” he told a press conference after attending the meet-the-people session and briefing on current issues programme in Kota Baru today.
The event, which was attended by more than 2,000 Umno members, was also joined by another vice-president, Hishammuddin Hussein, Umno information chief Ahmad Maslan and Kelantan Umno liaison chairperson Mustapa Mohamed.
Tengku Adnan was reported as saying that a special committee was investigating the seven Umno leaders over their open remarks that could affect the party.
Commenting on the recommendations put forward by Zainuddin Maidin on the position of Muhyiddin Yassin as Umno deputy president, Ahmad Zahid said he respected the views expressed by the former information minister.
“I respect his opinion but it is up to the leadership to accept his analysis in the form of of action or otherwise.
“I am sure that are many more opinions that are similar or different with his and we have to study all these opinions,” he said.
Ahmad Zahid said unity among Umno members is very important at this time to enable the party to continue in the front line to helm the leadership of the country.
Zainuddin in his entry in zamkata.blogspot.my yesterday said Muhyiddin should not be dismissed from the post of deputy president because he was elected by the general assembly but his sacking as an Umno member will cause him to automatically lose all his party posts.
Asked on today’s event, Ahmad Zahid said it was aimed at providing information on several current issues to the grassroots leaders.
