The opposition needs to sit down and get its act together before the people give up on them, urged PAS Pokok Sena MP Mahfuz Omar.

"The opposition is now sending confusing messages to the people, it's not impossible that this will cause them to give up on us," he told reporters at the Parliament lobby today.

Mahfuz said the people have high hopes for the opposition, especially to take over Putrajaya.

"But when this is not respected by the opposition leaders... when we fight among ourselves... they will think that BN will surely win," he said.

However, he denied that this was aimed at PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang or the party's decision not to vote against Budget 2016.

"It's a general statement," he said.

Asked if he agreed with abstaining on the budget vote, Mahfuz replied: "Wait for the (budget) voting day."

He added that he had not received official instructions to abstain from voting on the budget.
