A BN lawmaker said he suspects that RM105 million under the 2015 Budget supposedly allocated for vernacular, religious and national-type Chinese secondary schools had instead been used for flood mitigation programmes.

Tiong King Sing (BN-Bintulu) told Dewan Rakyat that he had heard that a RM30 million allocation supposedly given to vernacular and religious schools had gone missing.

Similarly, the RM15 million allocation for national-type Chinese secondary schools had also disappeared, he said.

Under the 2015 Budget tabled by Prime Minister and Finance Minister Najib Abdul Razak, vernacular and religious schools were allocated RM50 million while the national-type Chinese secondary schools were given RM25 million.

Earlier, Deputy Education Minister Chong Sin Woon confirmed the ministry only received RM20 million While his boss Mahdzir Khalid claimed he was in the dark as to the details of the matter.

"I urge the minister to explain the confusion to prevent the public perception that the government will not fulfil its promises," said Tiong.

"How can the ministry secretary-general change the decision approved by the august house?" he asked.
