PAS' decision to abstain from voting in Budget 2016 was an ethical one, said Youth chief Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz.

He was responding to Pakatan Harapan which had said it is ethical for opposition lawmakers to vote down the budget.

"I have explained our reason to abstain from voting," Nik Abduh said when met at Parliament today.

PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli has expressed regret over PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang's statement that the Islamist party would not be voting down Budget 2016.

"In fact, I think it is a moral duty of every MP to vote down the budget in order to get rid of (Prime Minister) Najib (Abdul Razak)," said Rafizi on Sunday.

He said the voters and supporters will back the Islamic party's stand, including its stand to work together with BN on national and public issues.

"Malaysians will like PAS' decision; they know the budget was meant for them. They just disagree on a few things in the budget, including the Goods and Services Tax (GST)," said Nik Abduh (PAS-Pasir Mas).

PAS will take the same position on issues opposed by the rakyat, he said.

When asked if the Islamic party still stands by its decision in voting Najib out, the PAS lawmaker was non-committal.

"We will have to see, we will answer later," he said.

PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan had insisted Hadi supports the no-confidence vote against Najib 'in principle'.

"This is not a flip-flop. We are determined to bring mature politics to Malaysia," he said.
