MIC president Dr S Subramaniam is confident the MIC annual general meeting (AGM) on Nov 6 will proceed smoothly as planned.

He said the 68th AGM held under his leadership for the first time would proceed even though there were rumblings that supporters of former party president G Palanivel might create a commotion on voting day.

He said the party's AGM and re-election would be held on the same day at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS), and not over two days as scheduled earlier.

"We will have a dinner with delegates on Nov 5, followed by the party election on Nov 6," he told a press conference in conjunction with a 'Healthy Eating Campaign' to mark the coming Deepavali festival in Kuala Lumpur today.

He said Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak as BN chairman was expected to open the AGM at 3pm.

Earlier, the MIC proposed to hold re-elections for the deputy president, vice-presidents and members of the central working committee (CWC) on Nov 6, followed by the AGM the next day.

The meeting scheduled on Dec 13 and 14, was postponed on the order of the Registrar of Societies (ROS) which wanted the party to hold its AGM after new elections were held for the posts of the three vice-presidents, CWC members, as well as eight divisions.

ROS cancelled the party election held in November 2013 after receiving complaints on irregularities of the election process.

Subramaniam also warned contesting candidates not to be involved in money politics in the party's re-election.
