The BN-led federal government has banned all opposition leaders from entering public education institutions, Seri Setia Assemblyman Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad claimed today.

Nik Nazmi, who is also the Selangor exco in charge of education, said even Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali was not allowed to enter government-owned schools.

He added that the ban applied to all leaders in the federal opposition even though some of them are government leaders at the state level.

"Elected representatives, the menteri besar and even myself as executive councillor are not allowed to enter government schools.

"Be it primary or secondary schools, we are not allowed in. We also cannot even enter public universities.

"This is a clear case of double standard. This ban imposed by the federal government clearly demonstrates an erosion of democracy and it is also being unprofessional," he told a press conference at the Selangor state assembly lobby in Shah Alam today.

Nik Nazmi said the state leaders were not going into schools to campaign but had only wanted to meet and dialogue with students.
