Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali has assured that Darul Ehsan Investment Group ( DEIG ) will operate transparently after earning flak when the company was first established earlier this year.

Addressing the Selangor state assembly today, Azmin said a draft of DEIG's operational structure is ready and will be submitted to the state legal chambers for feedback before it is debated in the House.

"We guarantee the structure of DEIG will be transparent.

"We want DEIG's operations to be overseen by a committee which will be appointed by the Selangor state assembly and audited by the National Audit Department," he said.

Azmin plans to consolidate Menteri Besar Incorporated's (MBI) assets under DEIG, similar to the federal government's Khazanah Nasional Berhad to improve efficiency.

However, the plan was criticised including from within the state government's ranks over concern that this will be less transparent as DEIG, unlike MBI, is not a statutory body and may not be subjected to the state assembly's oversight.

Azmin said this while delivering his winding-up speech for the state's Budget 2016.

Azmin, who is also Bukit Antarabangsa state assemblyperson, also said DEIG will only commence operation after the mechanism to ensure transparency and corporate management system is finalised by the state legal department.
