Malaysian police have busted a drug syndicate processing high grade heroin and arrested five people including a Taiwanese national in three separate raids in the capital, said an official.

National anti-narcotics director Mohamad Najib Abdul Aziz said police seized 7.8 kilogramme of high quality compressed heroin slabs worth RM1 million, a revolver, drug processing utensils and three cars.

"Those arrested, aged 29 to 46 years including the leader, were detained in three locations in the capital," he was quoted as saying by Bernama news agency yesterday.

The raid was conducted Wednesday and the heroin was intended for export to Europe, Australia and Taiwan.

Mohamad said the arrested Taiwanese had been in Malaysia for a month.

Those arrested could also be charged under the Dangerous Drugs Act, which carries a mandatory death sentence.
