The National Civics Bureau (BTN) fully supports the government to take action against any NGOs if they were proven to be involved in political activities that led to racial tension.

BTN chief Raja Arif Raja Ali said this was to prevent any chaos from happening in the country.

"Our country has laws. No matter who it is, if it's wrong, it's wrong.

"Do you want a situation where the court rules something wrong but we can say it's not wrong? It doesn't matter if it's red, yellow or white shirts," he said at a press conference at the National Patriotism Convention in Kuala Lumpur today.

Raja Arif was responding to Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin's written parliamentary reply to a question by Er Teck Hwa (DAP-Bakri) on Thursday.

Khairy ( photo ) had said that based on the law, action can be taken against the National Silat Association (Pesaka), including suspension and a fine, if they were proven to have been involved in politically-motivated activities.

However, he did not clarify if action would actually be taken against the association, which is led by a former Malacca chief minister.

Raja Arif said he personally disagreed with the racially-charged red shirt rally on Sept 16, when asked to elaborate further on that matter.

"Personally, I disagree (with the red shirt rally) because even from our schooling days we are taught to live harmoniously together," he said.

Obey commission's constitution

Pesaka, which admitted to organising the rally, is subject to the Sports Development Act (APS) and is registered under the Sports Commissioner's Office.

Khairy said they have to obey the constitution of the commission to develop the sport of silat.

He explained that Section 2 of APS stated that any organised sports competition, seminar, clinic or courses should not involve any political motivations.

Section 39 of APS also allows for a fine of not more than RM5,000 or jail term up to six months or both, if found guilty.
