As MCA failed to clarify on its portion from Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s RM2.6 billion donation within the given 24-hour deadline, DAP Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng lodged a report against it with Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) at noon today.

Kuala Lumpur DAP Youth publicity secretary Patrick Hoo, who accompanied Lim, said the deadline was calculated from 11am yesterday, when Lim issued a statement requesting information on the amount received and where it went.

Hoo said the MACC officers were friendly in acknowledging their letter and promised a reply. However, they did not promise if an investigation would be conducted.

“We are hoping that the MACC will probe to determine if there were elements of corruption,” added Hoo.

Lim, when contacted, said he could not talk to the press as the law prohibited him to touch on the matter after a report was lodged.

Where did the money go?

Yesterday, Lim asked what was the amount received by MCA from the RM2.6 billion transferred into Najib’s personal bank accounts.

“Was the amount transferred into the personal accounts of MCA leaders, too, or was it transferred into MCA’s official bank account?

“If it did go into personal accounts, who had received the funds?”

Lim added that if MCA failed to respond within 24 hours, he would lodge a report with the MACC today.

The DAP parliamentarian's queries were based on former MCA president Chua Soi Lek’s recent revelations .

Chua had recollected how Najib had, in a BN supreme council meeting before the 13th general election, made an unprecedented pledge to fund BN component parties.

Leaked investigation papers

In July, both The Wall Street Journal and the Sarawak Report cited leaked investigation papers which found RM2.6 billion had been deposited into Najib’s personal bank accounts.

The reports claim that US$681 million came from Tanore Finance Corp while another RM42 million came from state-owned SRC International, a former subsidiary of 1MDB.

While Najib has maintained he did not use the money for personal gain, he has yet to shed light on the matter.

This had prompted the opposition to show 'Where is RM2.6 billion' placards during Najib’s presentation of the Budget 2016 in Parliament three weeks ago.
