The Kuala Krai Social Welfare Department has completed distributing a wide range of basic necessities to 50 forward bases in the district in preparation for the year-end monsoon floods.

Its officer Zulbahri Ibrahim said the operation involved four state constituencies, namely Mengkebang (with 19 bases), Dabong (14), Guchil (10) and Manek Urai (seven).

"Among the essential items supplied to each base are rice, sardine, cooking oil, sugar, biscuits, mats, blankets, towels and mattresses," he told reporters during the distribution of the items to the Kampung Bahagia base in Kuala Krai today.

Zulbahri said the leave of the 23 staff of the department had been frozen.

"The Kuala Krai department has also sent some staff to attend courses on how to face the disaster," he added.
