Pakatan Harapan whips lash PAS over Budget stand
Pakatan Harapan's parliamentary whips gave PAS a lashing today over the Islamist party's stand on Budget 2016.
They said not rejecting the budget was an unwise move.
"PAS' proposal to abstain from the budget is not wise for a mature opposition," the whips said in a joint statement today.
It was signed by PKR whip Johari Abdul, DAP whip Anthony Loke, and Amanah whip Khalid Samad.
PAS has decided to abstain from the budget vote, after party president Abdul Hadi Awang said there were good things about it.
However, the Islamist party has said that it would support a vote of no confidence against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.
The Pakatan Rakyat
whips pointed out that a motion of no confidence may never see the light of day, hence the need to move against Najib by voting down the budget.
And if they succeed, they said this will force Najib to either table the budget, step down, or dissolve Parliament.
"Rejecting the budget should also be seen as a golden opportunity to fix a budget that burdens the people," the whips added.
Pakatan Harapan had previously tabled a shadow budget which ‘effectively abolished’ the Goods and Services Tax by making it 0 percent.
Its budget also emphasised on plugging leakages and stamping out corruption.
