A total of 190 people from 40 families in eight villages in the vicinity of Simpang Renggam, near Kluang have been evacuated to three flood relief centres.
Kluang district officer Muhamad Fuad Radzuan said all the victims were evacuated in stages since yesterday afternoon after their houses was flooded.
“Up to 12 noon today, all the affected residents are from Kampung Sri Ampangan, Kampung Pisang, Kampung Haji Noor, Kampung Sungai Rambai, Kampung Parit Jepun, Kampung Paya Mas, Kampung Paya Palembang and Kampung Kolam Air,” he said in a statement in Johor Baru today.
Muhamad Fuad said the first evacuation at 7pm last night involved six families from Kampung Pisang and they were housed at Sekolah Kebangsaan Sri Kencana flood relief centre.
The flood was due to continuous heavy rain since 3pm yesterday while the drains at the plantations and farms could not contain the rising waters, he said.
“Immediate assistance has been rendered to the victims through the government agencies such as Civil Defence Department and Welfare Department,” he said.
Up till 12 noon today, the water level reading indicated a dangerous level of 6.52 metres while Machap dam was at an alert status of 16.83 metres, he said.
