Azmin: PAS stays in S’gor, says will follow common policy
Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali today said PAS was being retained in the state government because Selangor PAS had agreed to comply with the common policy framework of Pakatan Rakyat even though the coalition is now defunct.
Parti Amanah Negara communications director Khalid Abdul Samad said this was conveyed to the Amanah leadership during their meeting with Azmin yesterday.
"Therefore, according to the Selangor menteri besar's view, there is no need for a new agreement between PAS and (the newly formed) Pakatan Harapan," he said.
Pakatan Harapan was formed in September and comprises PKR, DAP and Amanah, a splinter of PAS following the disintegration of Pakatan Rakyat.
Khalid said Amanah accepted Azmin's view that there was no Pakatan Harapan government in Selangor as PAS was part of it but noted that Amanah, which is part of the new coalition, has not been given due recognition.
Khalid said Amanah also impressed upon Azmin that even though PAS had won the election on Pakatan Rakyat's ticket, it was the party's former leaders who were now in Amanah that had championed the coalition.
"Amanah also asked the Selangor menteri besar to help ease the feud between Amanah and PAS.
"The rights of all quarters need to be acknowledged and any injustices or discrimination must be called out and prevented," he said.
In the hour-long meeting, Khalid said Amanah also sought to address PAS rebel Husam Musa's accusation that PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang had tried to form a unity government with Umno in Selangor.
Not targeted at MB
Husam had claimed that Abdul Hadi had tried to subvert three PKR state assemblypersons to defect to their side to allow PAS to form a unity government with Umno during the Selangor menteri besar crisis.
This led to unwanted spotlight on Azmin as the next Selangor menteri besar despite his insistence that he had no knowledge of any such deal.
"Amanah explained that Husam's claim about efforts (by PAS) to form a unity government with Umno was not targeted at the Selangor menteri besar but at the PAS president.
"Amanah admits that the Selangor menteri besar had no knowledge of the matter as it was mentioned in the PAS central committee and not in discussions between the PAS president and Selangor menteri besar," he said.
Khalid added that Amanah also promised to cooperate with Azmin to reduce the negative speculations against him.
