The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) raided both Malaysiakini and The Star after a police report was lodged against both media organisations, said Communications and Multimedia Minister Salleh Said Keruak.

"To me, when there is any report made, action should be taken," he said when met at the launching ceremony of GoAsean Upfront, a local travel show.

He was asked to respond if the raids by MCMC on both media organisations over their report of the transfer of Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's (MACC) deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Shazalee Abdul Khairi were justified.

Ahmad Shazalee was a member of the special operations division entrusted to probe the claims of funds flowing out from 1MDB's former subsidiary SRC International Sdn Bhd into Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s personal bank accounts.

Salleh, however, said the report was lodged and MCMC was requested to assist the police in their action against both media.

"The report was made where the police took action to investigate it and asked for MCMC's cooperation," he said, without naming the complainant.

The MCMC and police raided Malaysiakini a week ago, questioned an editor and seized one computer. The authorities returned on Monday , questioned two more journalists and took away another computer.

They also went to The Star last Saturday to query the journalist. A computer was also carted away.

Malaysiakini 's article was titled ' Sudden transfer for MACC prosecutor ' while The Star 's article was titled: ' MACC prosecutor 'shocked' over sudden transfer '.

The investigations against Malaysiakini and The Star were based on a complaint lodged by an officer from the Attorney-General's Chambers.

Attorney-general Apandi Ali has denied that Ahmad Shazalee was transferred out of MACC, which was not specified in the Malaysiakini report.

Last Wednesday, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Nancy Shukri told the Dewan Rakyat that Ahmad Shazalee had been transferred internally .

Malaysiakini only stated Ahmad Shazalee was transferred, but never said he was transferred out of the MACC.
