PKR’s Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli today said he will write to 1MDB president Arul Kanda Kandasamy to reiterate his readiness to debate with Arul Kanda about the state investment firm.
This comes after Arul Kanda told an Umno information session today that said he is prepared to give a briefing to 1MDB’s chief critics Rafizi and DAP’s Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua.
Rafizi said if Arul Kanda is all prepared, then he should not have backed out of a debate with Rafizi, after the MP announced that he would stand in for Pua.
“I am ready to entertain Arul’s ego, with no conditions. If he dithers and gives excuses again, I will have to assume that he is no different from Umno politicians who are only bold on their own turf in front of their supporters.
“If he rejects a debate with me again, I will conclude that he is not a professional but an Umno leader and should therefore join Umno as soon as possible,” Rafizi said in a statement.
The debate between Pua and Arul Kanda was cancelled after Dewan Rakyat speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia set a condition that Pua can only debate Arul Kanda if he resigns from the Public Accounts Committee, as PAC’s probe on 1MDB is still pending.
Pandikar also said that any debate on the issue should happen after PAC concludes its investigation.
Arul Kanda earlier said he believes Rafizi, whom he has known since they were in school, is a worthy opponent but the speaker has the last say.
