Najib: No fixed allocation for political donations from GLCs

There is no fixed allocation from government-linked companies for political donations, said Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

Instead, he explained that request for financial contribution from politicians will be considered according to funds available.

"Request from those quarters will be considered just as financial contribution requests from NGOs, that is based on the organisation's needs and the balance available from the GLCs' corporate social responsibility (CSR) budget," he added.

Najib said these funds given to politicians are used for activities such as supporting school sports day, helping flood victims, breaking fast or Hari Raya Aidilfitri events for the needy.

The premier said this in his capacity as finance minister in a written parliamentary reply to Khalid Ibrahim (Independent-Bandar Tun Razak) who asked how much financial contributions GLCs have made to politicians from 1981 to 2014.

Najib is currently under intense public scrutiny after it was revealed that RM2.6 billion donation went into his personal bank accounts shortly before the 2013 general election.

The funds are reportedly from an unnamed Arab donor.

Late last year and early this year, the Finance Ministry-owned SRC International through its subsidiaries transferred RM42 million into Najib's accounts.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is probing the matter.
