Rosmah Mansor’s aide, Rizal Mansor, has extended an invitation to National Oversight and Whistleblowers (NOW) director Akmal Nasir to have tea to explain the definition of the word “patron”.

This is in relation to Akmal who had asked whether Rosmah, the wife of the prime minister, was the patron of a charity foundation for orphans, Yayasan Pembangunan Anak Yatim/Miskin (Pemangkin).

“I want to invite Akmal to have tea, then I can explain to him what the word patron means.

“He asks me questions and I will answer, vice versa,” he said in a Facebook post.

Rizal added that he could also tell Akmal the list of societies and organisations of which Rosmah is the patron.

Akmal yesterday said he had found an Utusan Malaysia report dated April 27, 2009 which revealed that Rosmah was appointed patron of Pemangkin during the launch of the foundation.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Jamil Khir Baharom, who is currently at the receiving end of Akmal’s recent expose, had also attended the launch.

Several questions

Akmal said Yayasan Pembangunan Ekonomi Islam Malaysia (Yapeim), which is under Jamil Khir's purview, had made the biggest donation to Pemangkin at RM4 million.

Pemangkin also received donations from the public through a text messaging service called Skim Sumbangan Amal Jariah untuk Pembangunan Anak-anak Yatim dan Miskin.

"This raises several questions which Jamil Khir must answer, such as, was Rosmah really appointed the patron of a charity foundation for orphans and the poor?" asked Akmal.

Akmal also asked the reason as to why Rosmah was appointed the patron of a charity foundation for orphans and the poor.

"Was Pemangkin truly set up as an effort to address the problems of orphans and the poor?

"How many orphans and the poor would Pemangkin have been able to help if Yapeim's funds were not wasted on overseas programmes, and were instead used for charity for the orphans and the poor?" he asked.

Akmal on Monday had claimed that Yapeim’s funds were used to fund marriage courses in Paris, France.

Earlier on in his series of exposes, he had also claimed that Jamil Khir had gone golfing abroad with funds for orphans.

Jamil Khir has since slapped him with a legal letter which demanded a retraction and apology from the NOW director by today.

Akmal was also asked to pay RM10 million in damages.
