The ringgit closed higher against the US dollar today on the back of improved crude oil prices, dealers said.

At 5pm, the ringgit was quoted at 4.3410/3480 against the greenback from 4.3870/3950 yesterday.

A dealer said Brent crude futures were up 38 US cents at US$44.52 a barrel today, and its recovery was positive for oil-producing countries, including Malaysia.

The rise in ringgit was also in line with emerging Asian currencies as investors priced in the Federal Reserve’s anticipated move to increase interest rate in December, he said.

The local note was also traded higher against other major currencies.

It fell against the Singapore dollar to 3.0650/0721 from 3.0801/0868 yesterday and eased against the yen to 3.5247/5315 from 3.5583/5651 yesterday.

The ringgit rose against the British pound to 6.6283/6398 from 6.6687/6817, and increased versus the euro to 4.6392/6484 from 4.6809/6899 yesterday.
