Panel chair: Performance of MACC staff satisfactory

The performance of Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) staff is at a satisfactory level, with none involved in serious criminal charges.

MACC Complaints Committee chairperson Amar Wilson Baya Dandot said although there had been cases of wrongdoing, it involved a small number and the integrity among staff is encouraging.

“Six staff were expelled for wrongdoing in 2014 and four this year. These cases were non-criminal, merely disciplinary,” he told a press conference in Labuan today.

Earlier, he gave a briefing on the Integrity Enhancement Programme to the MACC enforcement unit in Labuan.

He also urged MACC staff to adapt to changes and the new working environment so as to be able to discharge their duties effectively according to the agency’s standard procedure.

“We want staff to understand their job, the evolution taking place in the country and government policies. We are talking about the rapid development of our nation with internet development and so on and so forth,” he said.

Wilson said there was a need for an emphasis on strategic thinking in line with the government’s transformation in various aspects.

He noted that public complaints on wrongdoing by MACC staff had resulted in positive impact in the performance and integrity of the organisation.

“The improved accountability and professionalism among MACC staff was proven when there was no element of violence in investigations recorded since October 2012,” he said.

He said the principle of ‘Zero Tolerance and Whiter Than White’ practiced by the MACC had given positive results to the performance and image of the staff.
