Media and women - chauvinism at play?
news analysis
Women in Malaysia generally make the news in two different ways - either as activists for the women's agenda or in their professional, political or business careers. And these two groups of women news makers are usually treated differently. Those commenting on traditional 'women's issues' are often relegated to the leisure section of the print media or given less air time by the broadcast media. But those quoted as professionals usually get the same coverage as their male counterparts.
The good news is that women are making the news more today - both because the women's agenda is becoming more important and because more women are in senior positions in politics and the private sector.
