Traffic in Kuala Lumpur came to a standstill after the Federal Highway from Subang to the city centre was closed from 4pm today.

Also congested were Jalan Imbi, Jalan Kinabalu, and Jalan Sultan Ismail.

According to the city traffic police operation room spokesperson, the Subang-Kuala Lumpur route on the Federal Highway was closed to all traffic to make way for US President Barack Obama and his entourage who are here for the 27th Asean summit and related summits this weekend.

Obama's Air Force One plane touched down at the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) base in Subang at 3.20pm.

"The (Federal) Highway remains closed until the US president arrives at the KL Convention Centre," the spokesperson told Bernama in Kuala Lumpur.

He said all motorists were advised to use alternative roads and to adhere to all instructions to avoid being trapped in traffic congestion.
