Four men hammered their way through a goldsmith shop heist and escaped with jewellery and valuables worth about RM250,000 in Bercham, Ipoh this afternoon.

However, the hold-up at the Taman Desa Kenchana shop by the robbers, who were armed with hammers and a pistol, was not without a hitch.

As the four made a getaway on two motorcycles, one of the machines collided with an oncoming car, injuring both rider and pillion.

Nevertheless, the robbers escaped with the loot.

Ipoh acting police chief Superintendent Mohd Nor Rasid said the police seized hammers and a crash helmet at the scene of the accident.

He said blood stains, believed to be those of the injured duo were also found on the road.

He said in the 1pm heist, one of the four robbers had trained the gun at the shop proprietor while his three accomplices using hammers smashed the jewellery display cabinets.

"They escaped from the shop in two motorcycles but one of the machines was involved in a collision with a car.

"The robbers however, managed to slip away before a police team arrived at the scene," added Mohd Nor.
