Penang fiasco - both sides of political divide in mess

YOURSAY | 'M'sians hoping for better governance and future will have to seek divine intervention.'

Penang Umno motion - PKR reps' conscience, or planned revolt?

Teo Chuen Tick: "...744 acres had been reclaimed leaving 2,500 acres to be reclaimed" - perhaps the current state government can publicise more widely when those reclamation projects underway are actually part of those 2,500 acres to be reclaimed.

Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, I am one of those very critical of the Penang state government's transparency record but based on the facts you have divulged above, yes, I will agree that Umno assemblyperson for Pulau Betong Muhamad Farid Saad was using a “devious and slick tactic”. But this begets the question.

Were not the assemblypersons briefed on the facts as you revealed here? I do not blame the earlier Malaysiakini reports, for I supposed if the facts did not come up in the debate, how can it be reported?

The most damning aspect of this episode is that your own DAP Tanjung Bungah assemblyperson Teh Yee Cheu only apologised after an emergency meeting.

Does it mean Teh, too, was not aware of those facts revealed here when he voted? Whether the PKR 5 were voting according to their conscience or running with the wolves, is for you politicians to resolve.

Oh Ya?: Both sides of the political divide are in total disarray. Malaysians who are hoping for better governance and a better future will have to seek divine intervention.

Ksn: PKR is not a trustworthy coalition partner for DAP and it wants to be with PAS fanatics. So DAP should accept that fact and proceed to go with Amanah, work with that party towards the next GE. The public too feels that way about PKR, in my opinion.

Firestone: PKR is totally irresponsible in putting the Penang state government of which it is part of, at risk of having to pay compensation if there is a delay. It's about time DAP reconsidered its relationship with PKR. It has Umno DNA in most of its members.

The Analyser: The insecure little man is really getting paranoid now. Is this what his supporters call good governance? Unfortunately, the democratic system of governance does allow parliamentarians to "run with the hares and hunt with the wolves".

It's called freedom of choice. When it occurs in a parliament where the leading party has no tangible policies or philosophies you will have to expect this situation to arise increasingly often.

By the way, why is there no mention in your diatribe about how much the Penang government will profit if this reclamation goes ahead? There is plenty of manipulative talk about what it might cost for reneging on contracts.

But what about the other side of the story? Is this more DAP transparency 'where you get to know what I want to tell you?'

Iiiizzzziiii: Politicians with a conscience are dead politicians. How far do you think they can go before going down and under? They also need to ' cari makan' too. Are honesty and sincerity the main criteria for a successful politician, especially in Malaysia? Get real, for this is not a movie.

Korkor: Teh cannot have the best of both worlds. First oppose, then say sorry and then try to get away with it. Where is the DAP whip? Severe punishment must be meted out on him and that includes sacking him from DAP.

So what he remains an Independent or he may even join MCA or Gerakan? Let him go... he is not a team player. How can Lim say he forgives him? Where is the discipline that DAP had always sought for? Sack him. As for the PKR 5, well, they got elected due to the support for Pakatan Rakyat then and if they will to go on it alone, they will definitely be finished.

They are so arrogant and selfish. I wonder how PKR disciplines their reps? They better get some disciplinary action done on them or else, the people will punish them come GE14 and may even give the votes to BN if they are ever fielded again. This is a very serious warning to PKR.

Anonymous_1371995112: Lim, agree with you. Penang island is small and land area is limited. If the DEIA has been done and with proper consultancy, land reclamation is necessary whether one likes it or not. Ask Teh to come up with better suggestions rather than just oppose. If population increases so must land area.

Penang PKR Youth wants apology from Lim over Umno motion

P. Dev Anand Pillai: PKR like PAS is just another offshoot of Umno, that is the bare truth. It can never be denied. With their supreme leader in jail, they are just rudderless.

It would serve the DAP well, if it starts recruiting some quality Malays into the DAP who can put these wannabes to shame. The Umno-Gerakan government had begun selling off land and reclaiming land in Penang long before the people revolted in 2008.

Take a long look at the archives of government contracts, which may be either in the Prime Minster's Office or the Home Ministry and one will know. So it is indeed very dumb of the PKR 5 not to know this.

Basically: I am all for transparency in the reclamation process and for judiciousness, and for environment priority over business. But before Umno takes a moral high ground on this, perhaps they can pressure their own Umno-governed states to do the same, for example in Pengerang, Lumut, etc.

Don't be hypocrites. Umno should submit a motion to remove the Official Secrets Act (OSA) from all contracts, for starters. Don't just show off in Penang but do the exact opposite nationwide.

PKR is either naive, or something is up. By the way, who started destroying Tanjung Bungah? That destruction started decades ago.

Korkor: Lim, no apologies to the PKR 5. They are useless, selfish, arrogant reps who don't know anything about the cohesion that PKR and DAP have enjoyed all this while.

Boycott them and let them rot. If PKR were to nominate them again for GE14, I bet the people of Penang will teach them a great lesson but that may only benefit BN.

Meanwhile, to mean business and set a high standard of discipline in DAP, DAP Tanjung Bungah assemblyperson Teh Yee Cheu should be suspended and then even sacked from DAP since he is not a team player.

He thinks he was elected due to his own name? He was elected because the people of his constituency voted for DAP. Lim, the ball is at your feet now.

Wong Fei Hoong: Since the day Anwar was imprisoned, PKR has been like a headless chicken - no direction, spineless and no integrity. The people of Penang know who and which party to vote for in the next GE.

Factnot fiction: Stop the infighting. You are making us, your supporters, sick of you.

Over50ABU: PKR, blame it on yourself for having a weak party leader and party infighting.

Third Eye: It’s so easy to fall into the trap set by Umno. DAP must not take Penang voters for granted and believe it can do no wrong. It is wiser to sit back and reflect why there are misgivings among your fellow coalition members.

AkuMelayu-tetapi ABU jugak: For Pakatan Harapan to prevail and get to Putrajaya, they need strong and honourable men and women. Anwar Ibrahim is in jail. Is Lim a nice guy? Don't fool yourself. Lim is tough. He steps on many toes.

Yet he is clean, or else the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) would have nailed him by now. Umno hates his guts so it is using every of its wiles to get everyone of Pakatan Harapan's strong leaders into trouble or Umno will lose GE14.

Wg321: Just to sum up, today PKR is not a team player. So sad. Its president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail is unable to provide the leadership role for Pakatan Harapan.

Hibiscus: Looks like Lim is looking for a fight. Never mind he has to create an enemy to make a fight. Maybe there is nothing much anymore to keep Lim excited or occupied as CM of Penang. An idle mind makes much mischief.

Fair&Just: DAP is right. PKR has nothing to show about proper state governance, and that includes their administration in Selangor.

Anonymous$&@?: Why should the CM apologise? You can abstain from voting, so can the CM comment on your actions. Don't talk like Umno.
