Indonesia’s counter-terrorism agency said today it was investigating a video threat posted online, purporting to be from Islamic State militants.
In the nine-minute video posted on Facebook yesterday, a man identified as commander Abu Wardah Asy-Syarki from Islamic State warned Indonesian officials to “repent” or face being attacked.
The group’s black flag would “fly above the Merdeka Palace”, the man warned, referring to the presidential palace complex.
The head of the National Counter-terrorism Agency, Saud Usman Nasution, said he had asked for the video to be blocked, although it remained accessible on Facebook as of this afternoon.
“We’re working with the police to find out where the video came from,” he said.
Authorities estimate about 300-500 Indonesians have joined Islamic State.
