Under fire for dining with the self-styled Sulu princess Jacel Kiram, PKR vice president Tian Chua said neither he nor fellow PKR veep Nurul Izzah Anwar recogised Jacel.

"The issue is that we always go to international conferences. We take pictures with all sides, as mentioned by Nurul Izzah. We didn't who who it was," he told reporters in Parliament.

"We regret this was cause uneasiness among the people and Nurul Izzah has already apologised to the famliies of the victims. So why are we playing up the issue?" he asked.

The duo are criticised for attending an event with Jacel, during their recent visit to The Philippines.

The issue caught headlines when Jacel uploaded the pictures with Nurul Izzah onto her Facebook account.

Faced with public pressure, she said she regretted causing hurt to the families of 10 Malaysians who died in the 2013 Lahad Datu incursion by forces loyal to Jacel's father, the late self-proclaimed Sulu sultan.

The self-styled Sulu government claims that Sabah belongs to them.

Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today also accused Chua of arranging the meeting between Nurul Izzah and Jacel.

Chua said he is considering further action if Zahid does not retract his accusation.

He also advised the authorities to focus on efforts to safeguard Sabah's porous borders, instead of playing politics with he issue of sovereinty.

"The government promised a white paper, but there is no white paper until today.

"The trial against the Lahad Datu terorrists is ongoing and until today the talks (on the issue) is closed door, and the families don't know what happened," he said.
