Sabah rep wants ban on Nurul Izzah from state

An assemblyperson has urged the state government to ban PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar from Sabah following her meeting with self-styled Sulu princess Jacel H Kiram.

Mohd Suhaili Said, the assemblyperson for Tungku, said it was inappropriate for Nurul Izzah to have met with Jacel, daughter of self-proclaimed Sulu sultan Jamalul Kiram III, when the people of Sabah had suffered from the Sulu invasion of the state in 2013.

Jacel had uploaded four photographs onto her Facebook account on Nov 9 showing her meeting with Nurul Izzah.

Nurul Izzah had admitted to meeting Jacel when she was in the Philippines along with another PKR vice-president, Tian Chua, as part of the PKR delegation that met several quarters there.

Speaking during the debate on the 2016 state budget in the state assembly, Mohd Suhaili elaborated on the suffering the people of Lahad Datu underwent during the Sulu invasion.

He said the people had to leave their homes to save themselves, and some of them fled to a Felda scheme while others had to put up in community halls.

Before government aid arrived, he had to fork out about RM7,000 for the purchase of food and drinks for the victims of the intrusion, he said, adding that four newborn children died.

Mohd Suhaili called on the people regardless of political affiliation and racial and religious background to defend the sovereignty of Sabah and to maintain peace in the state.

Ahmad Bujang (BN-Sindumin) urged the government to prevent Nurul Izzah from entering the state.

He said Nurul Izzah should not have asked for help from outsiders, more so people like Jacel, to apply pressure to get her (Nurul Azizah’s) father Anwar Ibrahim, who is serving a five-year prison sentence for sodomy, released from jail.
