'PAS-Umno unity is DAP's dream, not ours'

DAP appears more keen to see an Umno-PAS coalition than PAS itself, the Islamic party's Youth vice-chief Khairil Nizam Khirudin says.

This was particularly true of DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, who Khairil claimed was angry that his dream of seeing PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang ousted in the last party election did not materialise.

"PAS remains steadfast it its struggle without the slightest intention to combine with Umno, as desired by DAP.

"It is strange that DAP wants PAS to combine with Umno, more than the PAS members themselves," he said in a statement yesterday.

Khairil said DAP appears to have neglected its duties to the rakyat in its obsession to push PAS and Umno together.

'DAP likes to quarrel with allies'

"DAP is seen as a party that likes to quarrel with its allies and act as a 'big brother'.

"Not only did it do so with PAS, DAP is now attacking PKR in Penang... of colluding with Umno," he said.

In this, Khairil was referring to Lim's criticism of five PKR state assemblypersons who abstained on a motion by Umno in the Penang state legislative assembly that called for due process in reclamation projects in the state.

He pointed out that the DAP government had also rejected four of five motions by PKR's Penanti assemblyperson Norlela Ariffin in the last state assembly sitting.

"DAP is growing increasingly arrogant in Penang and is trying to monopolise all decisions of the state government and sidelining other coalition partners.

"It is this attitude of the DAP that spoiled the relationship in Pakaran Rakyat and it will surely continue to be a thorn in the flesh with Pakatan Harapan," Khairil said.
