PARLIAMENT There were almost 5,900 registered voters over the age of 100 at the time of the 13th general election in 2013.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Azalina Othman Said, however, said there were no statistics as to how many of the 5,877 actually voted.

"The Election Commission (EC) does not have statistics as to how many registered voters over 100 years old and their racial breakdown voted in the election," Azalina said.

She said this in reply to a question from Noh Omar (BN-Tanjong Karang) who wanted to know how many ballots were cast by centenarians in the May 2013 election.

Prior to GE13, the opposition and election watchdog Bersih had raised concerns that many registered voters over 100 years old may have passed away and their identities used to cast phantom votes.

The EC, however, says it has taken proactive steps to purge the electoral list of the deceased and the Home Ministry in 2012 gave the EC and other agencies access to the National Registration Department's database, allowing the commission to remove deceased voters immediately.
