The Gopeng Umno division has repeated calls for disciplinary actions to be taken against Umno deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin and former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, following the recent sacking of its former Wanita wing chief Datuk Hamidah Osman.

"We accepted the decision of Hamidah's removal unanimously after our (division) meeting," said Gopeng Umno division chief Hamzah Kassim, as quoted by The Star .

"But we feel the same should also be done to Muhyiddin and Mahathir as they have both gone against the party's rules and regulations as well," said Hamzah.

He said the Gopeng division had made the decision at its annual general meeting four months ago and submitted a proposal to the Umno supreme council, to also expel Muhyiddin and Mahathir from the party.

"What right do they have to openly call for our current leader to step down when he was rightfully elected by Umno members and the rakyat to lead our country?” Hamzah reportedly said after chairing the Gopeng Umno division committee meeting yesterday.

He stressed that all of them should have gone through the proper channels when voicing their dissatisfaction with Umno president and Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

Muhyiddin was removed from Najib’s cabinet in July, following his open criticisms with regard to operations of state-investment arm 1MDB.

It was also the time when 190 Umno divisions nationwide were just beginning to hold its AGMs and Najib, in his first officiating speech for this year, had at the Seremban Umno AGM on Aug 1 stressed there is a “proper way” to voice any criticisms against him.

Hamzah, meanwhile, also reportedly pointed out that Hamidah's removal would not have any negative effect among division members.

"We stand here united as one and will continue to work hard to win back our parliamentary seats in GE14," he said, adding that the issue of Hamidah's replacement will be left to the Umno leadership.

Najib, who chaired the Umno supreme council meeting in Parliament on Tuesday, later announced Hamidah’s expulsion on disciplinary grounds.

Hamidah told Malaysiakini yesterday she was unaware of the grounds of the decision.
