Education Minister Mahdzir Khalid has declined to comment on the finding that 85.5 percent of Sarawak school buildings are in disrepair until he gets a full briefing from his officers later today.

"Today, they will give me a full briefing. So I can't answer that yet.

"I'm waiting for a briefing from officers of the ministry this afternoon," Mahdzir said at a press conference after he attended the prize-giving ceremony of the Young Entrepreneurs Innovation Programme in Kuala Lumpur today.

He does not know the details of the dilapidated Sarawak school buildings, he added.

On Tuesday, the Auditor-General's Report 2014 revealed that a shocking 85.5 percent of schools in Sarawak are in a state of disrepair.

Schoolchildren were studying in either rotting or termite-infested buildings or where sewage water seeped out, said the third series of the report.

It added that auditors found 127 of the 145 schools in a terrible state with some totally unsafe to be occupied.

It said several blocks at the Lundu schools - SK Sebako and SK Jangkar - were deemed unsafe during an inspection on July 10, 2013, but no action had yet been taken as of March 31 this year.

On March 16, the auditors found that the condemned blocks at SK Sebako had been emptied for renovations but students at SK Jangkar were still studying in the unsafe buildings.
