New station Tea FM launched for East M’sia

Another private radio station which broadcasts in English and Chinese has been set up in Sarawak to cater for audience in the state, as well as in Sabah.

Known as Tea FM, it is a joint venture between the KTS Group, a media, oil palm and timber plantations and general trading company, and the Ancom Group.

Chief Minister Adenan Satem today officially launched the radio station which broadcasts in Chinese from 6am to 7pm, in English from 7pm to midnight, and plays music all night from midnight to 6am.

"People still want to know of happenings around them and in the world in real time.

"In Sarawak the radio is still the main medium of communication and has a very huge following," he said at the launch.

He also described Tea FM as another effort to promote and popularise the usage of the English language.

"There is still a niche market in the English language," he said.

Tea FM is on frequency 102.7FM in Kuching and 102.8FM in Kota Kinabalu. The station is located at Crown Towers, Jalan Pending, in Kuching.
