Sixty-five Umno branch heads in the Gelang Patah division tonight expressed their support for party president Najib Abdul Razak.

Their spokesperson Yusof Ahmad said they also strongly rejected the action by party members who issued statements which could undermine the party and its reputation.

"We are disappointed with statements made by certain quarters. As Umno members who are bound by the party constitution, it is not right to make statements outside the channels provided by the party," he told reporters at a media conference held at the Umno Gelang Patah division office in Nusajaya, Johor, tonight.

Yusof, who is Taman Impian Emas Umno branch head said action should be taken against those involved.

He was commenting on statements by several Umno branch heads in Johor , including Gelang Patah, urging that Najib step down as Umno president.

Yusuf said criticisms against the party should be made through proper channel as provided by the party constitution.

"The party should be strong and members to remain united to face the coming 14th general election," he added.
