The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) will finally be sending a team to Thailand next week to question to former PetroSaudi International director Xavier Andre Justo, inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar said.

The team was to leave for Thailand much earlier , he added, but the police were busy with ensuring security at the Asean summit in Kuala Lumpur.

"We were busy with Asean summit last week so we couldn't send a team. But in the coming week, we should be able to send a team to talk to Justo," Khalid said at a press conference after attending the Inspector Graduation ceremony at the Malaysian Police Training Centre (Pulapol) in Kuala Lumpur today.

Swiss national Justo had been arrested and convicted in Thailand of attempted extortion from his former employer, PetroSaudi.

Malaysian police finally obtained approval of Thai police to meet Justo over the 1MDB probe and Khalid said he had decided to send a team to Thailand.

On Oct 23, Khalid said Malaysian police had not yet been given a specific date to meet Justo because the latter had to undergo case management.

Justo is serving a three-year jail sentence after having been found guilty by the Thai court on Aug 17.

His case drew interest in Malaysia due to the business cooperation between PetroSaudi and 1MDB, as well as allegations of tampered documents.
