Charles Morais fled the country after revealing his explosive statutory declaration (SD) because he knew it was false, claimed his brother Richard.

Speaking to Malaysiakini , the youngest Morais brother added that Charles only dared to make his SD because he could leave the country.

"Why did you (Charles) run away like a chicken? [...] Because you know that you're telling lies.

"You don't have to listen to me; the fact that he (Charles) ran away is proof enough," Richard said.

Inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar revealed that Charles left Malaysia through the Johor causeway in the dead of night after his Thursday expose.

Khalid had labelled it a cowardly act , a remark Richard agreed with and repeated several times when contacted.

"He (Charles) is only brave to write (the SD) because he is not in Malaysia," Richard said.

He has asked Charles to reveal the contents of the pendrive to prove his claims are real.

Otherwise, Richard said it is only fitting if Charles is extradited back to Malaysia to face justice for making false allegations.

'Do a background check'

Richard also brushed off Charles allegations against him, including that he was jailed in Hong Kong before.

"Why doesn't he say I was jailed in Malaysia? [...] You can do a background check to say if I have ever been charged (for a crime)," he said.

Richard, who bears the honorific title ‘datuk’, also said that he would not be able to keep his datukship if he was a criminal.

Richard said his datukship was conferred by the Pahang Sultan in 2007.

In his expose, Charles claimed to have been given a pendrive containing information from his slain brother Kevin which implicated individuals in power and he (Charles) has arranged for it to be revealed if anything should befall him.

In the SD, he claimed Kevin had confided in him that he was working on a case involving Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and his wife Rosmah Mansor..

He also alleged that Kevin's signature was on a draft charge sheet against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak for corruption.

Kevin’s remains were found in a cemented drum at Persiaran Subang Mewah, Subang Jaya, near Kuala Lumpur on Sept 16.

He was reported missing on Sept 4 and was last seen leaving his apartment at Menara Duta in Kuala Lumpur to Putrajaya.
