The Court of Appeal today dismissed a blogger’s appeal against his conviction of contempt of court.
Sixty-two-year-old Alex Au, who runs the popular blog Yawning Bread, was found guilty in January 2015 of scandalising the court, a form of contempt of court. He was fined S$8,000 (US$5,571) in March for the offence.
Appellate judge Andrew Phang noted that Au’s blog post - in which he was found to have implied that the chief justice had not been partial regarding challenges to the constitutionality of a law that criminalises sex between men - risked undermining public confidence in justice system.
