We're tearing up the party, rues Umno leader

The worsening Umno leadership crisis is just going to tear the party apart limb by limb if there is no effort to broker peace, Cheras Umno chief Syed Ali Alhabshee said today.

He said Umno leaders were now too preoccupied hitting out at each other instead of attacking their rivals in the opposition.

“There are parties within Umno who are at each other's throats as if they are just waiting for the party to fall apart […]

“We are no longer aggressively attacking the opposition but are too excited to attack, condemn and malign each other,” he said in his latest blog post.

The party must be defended at all costs because it is the last bastion of defence for Malays and Islam, he added.

His lament comes as crowds gather at Umno headquarters to support the nine branch leaders who are facing disciplinary action for calling Umno president Najib Abdul Razak’s resignation.

Syed Ali claimed there were instigators with vested interests within the party who were stirring things up to affect unity.

Some issues raised, he said, were not as big as they were made out to be but were exploited to advance the instigators’ cause.

“I hope there are no parasites in Umno who will only weigh us down in our struggle,” he said.

He added that the ensuing problems have caused a crisis in confidence, which can only be solved by bringing the warring parties together for mediation.
