Electoral watchdog Bersih says it will ensure that "bad delineations" will not happen in Sabah and the peninsula.

Bersih chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah said this, after expressing disappointment with the Sarawak redelineation which was tabled in Parliament today.

"We will monitor the delineation in the Peninsula and Sabah so that such things don't happen again.

"We have started educating (the people) on how to collect objections (to redelineation)," Maria said at a press conference outside the Parliament lobby today.

Among the negative points of the Sarawak redelineation highlighted by Bersih, were discrepancies in terms of land mass versus population of voters, and the creation of new seats to "disrupt the voting pattern".

The Sarawak electoral redelineation report was tabled by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak in Parliament today, to seek approval to increase state seats there from 71 to 81.

The report is expected to be passed today despite the protests of the opposition, particularly from the Sarawak DAP.

This will pave the way for a state election to be conducted, as the current term of the Sarawak state legislative assembly will expire in June.
