MCA wants Education Ministry to throw textbook at 'little Napoleons'

MCA wants the Education Ministry to identify and take stern action against “little Napoleons" who had defied a cabinet decision.

Several Chinese vernacular schools had reportedly received textbooks for Bahasa Malaysia meant for national schools.

MCA central committee member Koh Chin Han said this had led to rumours that the Education Ministry was secretly implementing a measure for uniform Bahasa Malaysia textbooks in both streams.

Deputy Education Minister P Kamalanathan, in his written parliamentary reply, said that the two types of schools had different syllabus and different examination formats for Bahasa Malaysia at Standard Six.

Nevertheless, from 2016, both types of schools will use the same Bahasa Malaysia textbook.

On the other hand, fellow Deputy Education Minister Chong Sin Woon quoted the cabinet decision when amending the Education Blueprint, that all streams should not have uniform Bahasa Malaysia textbooks and examination formats.

Koh said as the two statements contradicted each other, the ministry must state clearly which one will be adopted.

“The statements by the two deputy ministers clearly show that the so-called ‘negligence’ in the issue is by no means technical but intentional,” he opined.

He added that the Chinese community wants to know the truth and the solution to the issue.

“MCA’s stand against a uniform Bahasa Malaysia syllabus for all schools is firm and unequivocal.

“Action must be taken against any quarter trying to disregard or subvert the cabinet decision,” he said.
