Focus on Tumpat as floodwaters flow downstream

The Kelantan Fire and Rescue Department is to focus on Tumpat as the waters of the swollen Golok River flow downstream there from Rantau Panjang.

Its director, Azmi Osman, said the department had deployed assets and personnel in Pengkalan Kubor as a precautionary measure.

He said 17 soldiers would assist the 35 fire and rescue personnel in Pengkalan Kubor.

“We will streamline operations once the floods strike Tumpat, especially the villages along the Golok River and in particular Kampung Bendang Pak Yong,” he said.

Azmi said fire and rescue personnel were engaged in patrol and monitoring in Rantau Panjang where the floodwaters were receding.

The floods caused about 900 people in the Bukit Lata mukim to be cut off after the village road linking to the main road was inundated.

The official portal of the Kelantan government, http://ebanjir.kelantan.gov. my/, reported that the level of the Golok River at Rantau Panjang at 4 pm was 9.18 metres, still above the danger point of nine metres.
