NSC bill will eventually be worse than ISA

YOURSAY | ‘Woe to those sycophantic MPs who forsake the people’s sacrosanct liberties.’

NSC bill granting Najib sweeping powers passed

Odin Tajué: The following five points provide a glimpse of what is in store for Malaysians.

Instead of saying the National Security Council, I shall say PM Najib Razak simply because none of the others in the council would disagree with him. Here goes:

1. Practically anything and everything you say or do that Najib doesn't like can be deemed a threat to national security.

2. Najib can declare any area a security area.

3. Najib can appoint a national operations director, who will have limitless power over a security area or areas and as well as recruit an equally limitless number of personnel to execute his bidding.

4. Najib is empowered to override any other written law - including the federal constitution.

5. Najib may not be taken to court.

For all intents and purposes, then, Malaysia will cease to exist as a constitutional monarchy. It will instead be a republic headed by Najib. As is obvious, he will have absolute power and hence a dictator.

As we know, the head of a republic is called ‘president', and the president's wife is called ‘first lady'. Thus his wife will have legitimate claim to being the First Lady of Malaysia.

Malaysians had better now get used to singing praises to their Beloved Most Esteemed Leader, the Lord of The Entire Universe, and to address or refer to him with the appropriate flattering adjectives and cognomen.

Or else. A member of that council, the inspector-general of police, will implement that ‘or else'.

Pemerhati: As things stand now BN (which came into power through cheating and by getting fewer popular votes than Pakatan Rakyat), which is essentially controlled by Najib and Umno, can pass any bill, sack unfairly any opposition member from Parliament and get the judges to imprison the opposition members on unfair and ridiculous sedition and other charges.

In the Parliament, it is a waste of time for Pakatan to debate with BN because all the BN parliamentarians will not be swayed by logic but will vote like robots against the opposition according to the directive they receive from Najib and Umno.

Similarly in the courts, the judges will turn the law upside down (as pointed out by law expert Abdul Aziz Bari in the Perak constitutional crisis case).

Malaysia is a dictatorship in democratic clothing.

Kim Quek: This is a day of infamy for Malaysia. The day when Umno-BN MPs crushed Parliament to enact a law to subvert the Agong’s sole power to declare emergency rule and to trample on our constitution.

Woe to these sycophantic MPs who forsake the people’s sacrosanct liberties and make them sacrificial lambs for their boss’ insatiable appetite for dictatorial power when there is not the slightest justification for instituting such power in peace time.

Umno-BN will pay dearly for this betrayal of the people. Meanwhile, the opposition should immediately challenge the constitutionality of such abominable law in courts.

Anon888: “Under the NSC Bill, the prime minister will have the power to declare any area a ‘security zone’. The opposition however argues that this encroaches on the Agong's power to declare a state of emergency under Article 150.

“Gobind Singh Deo (DAP-Puchong) argued that defending against security threats is already allowed for under Article 150, rendering (Minister in the Prime Minister's Department) Shahidan Kassim's argument that the NSC Bill is only to thwart security threats redundant.

“He also said Article 74(3) also prevented Parliament from formulating laws that touched on matters already established in the constitution. ‘This makes the bill unconstitutional,’ Gobind added.”

As such, the opposition MPs should lodge police reports against the government for introducing an unconstitutional bill that encroaches on the Agong's power to declare a state of emergency under Article 150 which is disallowed under Article 74(3).

We all come into this world naked and empty handed and similarly shall we leave it in the same state. Even if our beloved ones are to stuff our coffin with diamonds, gold, currencies of the highest denominations amounting to RM2.6 billion, of what use will these items be to us in the next world?

When you meet your Creator, God will not ask you how much wealth you have accumulated (legally, illegally or even through ‘donation’) but He will ask you a very simple question – how many people have you helped in your previous life, especially during the time when you have the powers of a minister?

How then my friend, are you going to answer to God? Please think carefully before your time comes for you to present yourself before God the Almighty and the All Knowing One.

Done: Eventually the NSC is just another version of ISA; but more deadly and more draconian.

Speaking Sense: There is only one solution - vote out Umno-BN at both federal and state levels.

A warning to those Sarawakians who think Adenan Satem has their interests at heart - he supports Najib, Umno and this and all other moves they make to subvert democracy in this country.

Don't be deceived by Adenan and his partners just for the sake of small grants for schools, toll-free bridges, drains, and hollow talk. The future of the country and our children are at stake here.

EmLaw: Shame to all the BN ‘yes men’ in Parliament. I am truly shocked that this has happened.

Let this go down in history of how you all helped to further bring back Malaysia into the dark ages.

This is the legacy you have chosen to leave behind for your own future generation and the people of Malaysia. Shame on all of you.
