Penang PAS and its Non-Muslim Supporters Club wants Parti Amanah Negara vice-president Mujahid Yusof Rawa to withdraw his remarks that allegedly likened PAS to terrorists like Islamic State (IS) and Al-Maunah.

State PAS secretary Iszuree Ibrahim said such remarks were “malicious” as PAS has promoted democracy and peace since the party was established in the 1960s.

“We do not condone terrorist acts. When Paris was attacked by those claiming to be from IS, our president Abdul Hadi Awang visited the French Embassy in Kuala Lumpur. We offered our condolences and condemned the violence,” Iszuree said after lodging a police report against Mujahid.

Iszuree said Amanah leaders like Mujahid were “bankrupt of ideas” and chose to condemn PAS as they do not receive the support from the public.

“The remarks were rude and showed that Amanah leaders cannot compete with PAS. Mujahid’s father was a PAS founder in the 60s and he grew up in a PAS household, so how can he make such remarks?”

State Non-Muslim PAS Supporters Club chief P Asokan said he was disappointed with Mujahid’s remarks as he has known the late PAS spiritual leader Nik Aziz Nik Mat - who was also his godfather - to be a “gentle and kind soul”.

“Saying that PAS is like IS is likening my godfather to a terrorist! I cannot accept it and want Mujahid to withdraw his statement as soon as possible or further action will be considered,” he added.

The duo were upset with Mujahid for saying that Amanah members were falling victim to " extremist actions " of PAS members and supporters, likening such actions to characteristics of the IS terror network.

Mujahid cited incidents where PAS members or followers went directly to houses of Amanah members and called them “infidels and hypocrites” and even slashed tyres of cars.

When contacted, Mujahid said he did not liken PAS to the Al-Maunah movement which was convicted of waging war against the Yang diPertuan Agong in 2000.

He vehemently denied an online poster which claimed he likened PAS to being extremist like Al-Maunah and or protesters who were involved in the bloody farmers' uprising in Memali in Baling in the 1970s.

“They have spinned my statement and as a result, I have received many brickbats. They should stop spinning and read my real statement which was published in the newsportals,” he added.

PAS and Amanah leaders are on a war path to discredit one another after 18 progressive leaders from PAS were given the boot at the party’s internal polls in June.

The 18 have since left to form Amanah and have launched Pakatan Harapan together with DAP and PKR.
